Book: The New Adventures of Curious George by Margret and H. A. Rey
Target audience: 3 and up
Topic: Assorted
Basic summary: The curious and good little monkey named George has eight adventures in this collection of stories.
You are probably already familiar with Curious George from the storybooks or television series. If you are a fan of the original stories, then this is a great collection to try. Each of the eight stories feature our favorite monkey, George, as he gets into then out of trouble. This collection features a visit to the zoo, movie theater, a hot air balloon race and even a chocolate factory (in a possible tribute to 'I Love Lucy') among others. Both my kids love these stories. My son first realized what a dream was thanks to 'Curious George's Dream'. My daughter loves 'Curious George Feeds the Animals' and seeing how his zoo visit goes (it's no surprise that it goes poorly at first).
As in all Curious George stories, he creates a problem, but through good intent, makes things better and is forgiven in the end. For a young child, it's a perfect set-up for an enjoyable story.
Like this one? Try the other Curious George collection called A Treasury of Curious George. It's just as good (and includes 'Curious George and the Birthday Surprise'--one I've read thirteen hundred times).
